Hidden worlds
My most recent pictures show underwater, microscopic landscapes from streams 
and rivers. All are based on the actual composition of samples collected by 
myself or colleagues as part of scientific investigations. These pictures 
originated in a series of schematic illustrations I did for training courses and 
manuals for freshwater ecologists involved with monitoring freshwater quality. 
This series of three-dimensional dioramas of the underwater, microscopic world 
are, in part, an ongoing "thought experiment" of my own, to try to understand 
how the different groups of algae interact in different environments (clean and 
polluted) and as a springboard for dialogue with fellow professionals. 
The pictures illustrated below are all available as limited edition Giclée prints, 305 x 406 mm (12" x 16") at £40 (unmounted) or £50 (mounted) + £10 postage and packing (UK and EU).
Each of the following pages contains a sequence of images from lakes and rivers in the UK, along with some background information. Some miscellaneous images are included at the end of this page.
